Hi All.
I'm relatively new to Backup Exec, so please forgive me if this question has an obvious answer.
I'm running Backup Exec 11d, revision 7170 with Service Pack 3 installed.
My OS is Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition.
Backup device is a Dell Powervault 110T.
I've got a set of tapes, which have all been used several times to run full backup jobs. I'd like to change my backup strategy to a weekly full backup with daily differential jobs. This part I've got under control.
What's keeping me up at night is that I'd like to rename or relabel all my tapes. I know I can load them and run the Label Media job, but as I've understood it, that would erase the content of the tape. Since I don't want to bulk erase all my backup tapes, I'd have to label every tapes just before it's used in a backup job.
I can't help but wonder if there isn't a better way to handle this situation. Can't I somehow get Backup Exec to relabel a tape (that already has a media label) before or during my regular job?
All help is much appreciated.
