Restoring Exchange database MDBData

I recently had a need to restore our exchange database, though when I went back through the tape, I found that our full backup did not have anything in the MDBDATA folder.  So I know we have had info there before, so my question is does this really mean that I have no data to restore, or is there a way, I am unaware of, to restore this data?

This is kind-of an emergency, so any information would be of tremendous value.

Exchange databases did not get backed up through file level backup as they are locked by exchange services. So you will not find them in MDBdata folder.

You need to purchase exchange agent to backup online exchange database.

IF you had taken backup using exchange agent then you will be able to restore then online.
