Tape not exported (queued)

I am aware that this might be a hardware issue, but I would like to hear people's experiences with this issue:

When we try to export a tape, it is not exported, but queued.

The same thing happens when we try to unlock the library

The system is now looking like this:

  • Backup Exec 2010 with all hotfixes applied (About to upgrade to R3)
  • Windows 2003 R2 x64
  • Robot: HP MSL 2024. Firmware version: 5.50
  • Tape Drive: HP Ultrium 4 SCSI. Firmware: H68W/MSL G4 4GB
  • In windows, the library are using Windows Drivers (listed as Unknown Medium Changer)
  • We have applied Symantec Drivers through Backup Exec.

Any ideas folks? :)

If its BE 2010. rev 2896, there is a known issue with a particular HF....If yes, look for & uninstall HF 354913 through Add/Remove programs. Recycle BE services & re-try export or inventory.

EDIT*** In certain cases, a reboot might be required after uninstalling the hotfix.

Hi,

Check the Job Monitor tab and make sure there are no active alerts waiting for a response.

Alternatively, after your upgrade to BE 2010 R3, run LiveUpdate and install SP1. Once done, run LU again as there is a new DDI package.

Push-install the agents out to any remote servers, and then try the export again.

If it fails, download HP's Library and Tape Tools utility, stop the BE services and run the diagnostics against the drive to rule out hardware problems. You can run a Library Exerciser which should move your tapes around as well.

Thanks!

Just to add more to what VJWare has said. To confirm that what you are facing is the known issue, double click on the Active job (Export, Unlock, Inventory) and see if the status shows as SERVER PAUSED.

If it is showing SERVER PAUSED then probably its the knonw issue problem that you are facing. Also this issue is not observed in BE 2010 R3. So your decision to upgrade to BE 2010 R3 should be a good one.

Thanks,
