Viewing data from backup tape

i have just been assigned to Veritas Backup Tech.  How do I view the contents of a tape in the tape drive using Veritas Backup exec v 9.1 , or v 10.0?  I want to see what is on the tape and not to perform a restore?   Thanks

You can try running the "Backup Sets by Media Set" report as long as the tape is already cataloged.

If you want to see what tape is in the drive, run an inventory job.
If you want to see the contents of the tape in the drive, run a catalog job.  Once the catalog job is done, then right click the tape and select restore.  that will let you browse the contents of that tape.  If you don't want to actually restore anything, then click cancel.
