appendable tapes not being written to

Backup Exec 2010 - Several different jobs, same issue. Appendable tapes are not being written to. This is sporadic, no recognizable pattern. 

Media set is configured to "Infinite - allow append" and "overwrite protection set to Infinite - Don't Allow Overwrite". I still end up with several tapes being assigned to a media set with little data.

HELP!

My resources are being stretched.

Do you have multiple jobs or one bigger job ?

If a job spans multiple tapes only the first tape will be picked for appending, if the job needs other tapes it will pick overwriteable or empty tapes.

"Infinite - allow append" and "overwrite protection set to Infinite - Don't Allow Overwrite".

With these settings most of the times the same will happen. Consider changing the media set configuration.

Multiple jobs. For the most part 1 full and a partial is the size - LT4 tapes

Policy dictates - no overwrite and this issue happens to about 1 out of 4 jobs.

Issue seems to be: When a job starts it occasionally looks to a 'scratch media' tape, instead of an appendable..
