we currently have backup exec on a server running windows 2000 smalle business and we lost all data. we went to restore the tapes and we could not get the system state to restore. we have ms exchange sequal and crm all working together. it took several days and thousands of dollars to put the system back together.

is there a way to backup a system disk and be abel to restore it with out having to worry about the system state being restored?

the way we were doing it was having the system backup up everything every night from its normal running state. would it help to backup from safe mode?

any suggestions would be help full.

Hello,

In order to recover a machine you would require a full backup of the active partition including the system state, for disaster recovery procedures please refer to the admin guide on the link below:

1.Did you restore the system state and the data to the same server being used before the crash or was it replaced after the crash? If the hardware of the machine were to change there might be issues restoring the system state since system state contains machine specific data that cannot be redirected to a different server.

2.Is CRM, Exchange and SQL installed on the same server as backup Exec is?

3. Did you do a manual recovery or were you using IDR option from Veritas?

4.What were the issues you faced during system state restore and what exact error mesage did you receive?

5. Is active directory installed on the server you are trying to recover?
