Meet the Recruiter – Doris Yang APAC

What was your first job? 
When I was a sophomore, I got my first summer intern job as an assistant editor at China Science Paper Online. My job was simple, I downloaded documents, filed papers, and ran errands. Although the job was not glamorous, I was grateful and excited to experience life outside of my college campus. I still recall the co-workers I met during that experience because they were always kind and supportive. In addition, the dining hall offered a wide variety of delicious food.  

What was your first corporate job? 
My first corporate job was as a recruiter in an educational company after graduation. I focused on recruiting teachers abroad. That opportunity helped me discover my passion for working in Talent Acquisition. I wanted to help candidates land their dream jobs. One year later, I joined Baidu, a local Internet company, as a campus recruiter. 

What is a fun fact about yourself? 
I did a Gallup strengths finder test. My strengths lie in communication, empathy, and harmony. As a recruiter, I communicate with external candidates and internal stakeholders daily. It is important for me to be empathetic to understand both the candidate and the hiring managers’ needs. Aside from work, I love photography, rock climbing, and yoga. 

What is your favorite aspect about working at Veritas? 
Everyone is kind, respectful, and supportive. I love that our team recognizes one another for their accomplishments, and we celebrated even the smallest wins. I believe that gratitude is very important.  

What has been the most impactful lesson(s) you have learned as you progress your career? 
A growth mindset and eagerness to learn is the key to staying competitive. The world is changing every day, and so does Veritas as a business. As a recruiter, I’m a bridge between company and candidates, so it’s important to learn what’s happening to our business to identify and attract top talent.  

You are hiring; what is the most in-demand skills your team is looking for? 
I am covering full functions recruitment in GCR. Required skills vary from role to role. However, I find that hiring managers look for candidate with a positive attitude. A cheerful outlook helps to motivate good team spirit and enables each of us to do our best. 

What top three tips would you give to someone who wants to apply for a role or submit their resume to you? 

  • Read job description carefully, making sure this role is what you want to pursue  
  • Highlight and include the most relevant work experience at the top of your resume 
  • Be well prepared for the interview.
