NBU planned upgrade path (7.7->8.0)

Dear Experts!

Our customer is using NBU 7.7.3 and we want to upgrade to NBU to version 8.0.
The environment is the following in brief:
- opscenter 7.7.3
- prod site:
- nbu server: 7.7.3, media server: 7.7.3, MDSP is used
- dr site:
- nbu server: 7.7.3, media server: 7.7.3, MDSP is used
- AIR is used between two sites. Both nbu server is virtual.

We plan the following scenario:
upgrade path:
a, upgrade opscenter to 8 
b, upgrade dr nbu server and dr media server to 8 
c, upgrade prod nbu server and prod media server to 8 

Questions regarding this:
- Is it a good plan? Do the AIR will work between nbu servers 7.7.3->8.0 ?
I read thet catalog air is supported only between same releases. 

- What is your upgrade recommendations/considerations in this case?

There are limitations but best practice would be to upgrade your masters (Prod and DR) as close to each other as possible in this case and the respective media servers.
