I ran through a test migration/upgrade from 9.0.4 to 10.0.2 in my lab today. Everything seemed to work OK, and all checks and steps passed. However, now that I'm on my new 10 server, I can't open the admin console, and am getting this event repeatedly logged: Event ID 8623 Cannot connect to the Enterprise Vault Directory service. Check the Enterprise Vault event log on OLDSERVERNAME.domain.com to find the cause of the problem. I am using an alias, so nothing should be pointing to this name. My alias DNS entry has been updated, and is pointing to the new server. Up until about 2 weeks ago, my lab was not using an alias, so I ran through this KB to change it: TECH179428. Any ideas before I open a support case? Thanks!Solved1.4KViews6likes9CommentsEnabling Virtual Vault and Virtual Cache
Hi Everyone! I had installed Enterprise Vault 10 in my test server Windows Server 2008 R2, intending to perform some tests with the product and Exchange 2007. The test client runs Outlook 2007. Once enterprise vault is configured and working, and I'm able to provision the test mailboxes, I tried to enable virtual vault and virtual cache. In the server, in the desktop policy I enabled virtual vault and virtual cache, and with the default options (install automatically, with wizard, so on). After that, I manually provisioned, synchronized and archived on the server. Afterwards, when I log in to my outlook client, I don't see the VCache or VVault buttons or options in the EV toolbar. If I click the toolbar + ctrl + shift in the EV Information the only error that appears is TESTING CONNECTION HTTP connection failed http://WIN-GV6V5SU1CTH.test.local/EnterpriseVault (Status: 0x12) If I pingWIN-GV6V5SU1CTH.test.local I get reply, the client and the server are directly conected in LAN. Any ideas of how to get Virtual Cache and Virtual Vault working? Let me know any way in which I can provide more information. Hello, Has anyone ever configured an EV Domino Gateway on a server that is already running Enterprise Vault? To clarify the situation: I have existing EV solution for FSA and Exchange mailbox/journal archiving I now want to add Domino mailbox and journal archiving to the existing EV environment I want to configure one of the existing EV servers as the EV Domino Gateway The Symantec documentation states the following: "On the computer that will host the Enterprise Vault Domino Gateway, do the following: Install Domino server binaries and configure the Domino server Install Lotus Notes client binaries and hotfix, and configure the client. Use the ID file that you want to use for Domino archiving. After you have completed these tasks, you can install Enterprise Vault and perform the initial configuration." I would like to avoid adding an additional server just for the EVDG or performing a re-install of one of the existing EV servers. The plan! Is it possible to do the following without breaking the existing EV server: Install the Domino server and client binaries as per the pre-requisites on the existing EV server Run the EV binaries again and add the EVDG components Configure Domino mailbox and journal archiving as per normal Thanks in advance.Solved2.5KViews5likes10CommentsVault Cache and Virtual Virtual
I have seen a Symantec flashdemo on Virtual Vault by Alex Brown and it seems it's a good feature to enable on EV to give end-user a good experience. I would like to know if anyone out there used this feature and how popular or practical is from user's archive administration point of view. What are pros and cons. Currently we implement archiving using the normal way by using tasks and policies and at night archiving run starts and then backup take place. If you implement Vault Cache will EV leave any archive data on the user's local machine.Solved1.1KViews4likes7CommentsAdvice on hardware for upgrading EV 7.5 SP3 to EV 10.x.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Our EV 7.5 SP3 environment needs an upgrade. Inevitably, the budget is very tight and I’ve been given strict instructions that I cannot exceed the allowance. Our Exchange 2007 environment consists of two CCR clusters and targets, for EV, a single server running EV 2007 7.5 SP3. There are approx 13,000 mailboxes, in place. The majority are user mailboxes, with shared mailboxes and a proportion of ‘former employee’ mailboxes. Our user base includes Citrix and VPN users, as well as OWA users and of course office based LAN users. Average mail item size is 100Kb. Our archive strategy is aggressive: all mail older than 28 days is archived via EV. Our current EV Server has about 13Tb of mail data stored already, and the ‘a5’ private queues are already rather huge: around 655000 for each of our two exchange server clusters. In the last couple of years, we’ve already added an extra 10Tb of archive space and doubled the size of the Indexing drive. In an ideal world, we’d probably have one EV server per Exchange CCR cluster, but the funds available will not stretch to that luxury. I’ve been offered an HP DL/580 G5 with 4 x Quad core processors, 32Gb of RAM and 15Tb of SAN storage – this is expected to last us three years The latter is to be split between Fast SCSI for Indexing and Fibre ETA for Archive storage. We’ll be relocating the existing direct attached arrays to the new server. It’s our intention to upgrade to the latest version of EV (10.0.2 ?) and realise that to do so, we’ll have to upgrade through EV 8.x and EV 9.x. before we can get to version 10. I’d appreciate any suggestions for alternative configurations of hardware that keep us within budget and give an improved throughput of archived data.Solved887Views4likes6CommentsOWA 2010 Extensions with EV server 9.0
Hi everybody. I'm working in a transition/instalation of Exchange 2010 from Exchange 2003, and now I'm going to install EV OWA Extensions on CAS 2010 Servers. Now, I have EV 9.0, but I will upgrade EV to 10.0.3 in few months. Can I install the OWA Extensions 2010 in the new CAS servers with EV server 9.0? Or I may install the 9.0 version by the moment? Best regards, Adri.Solved745Views4likes2CommentsCategories with Retention

Hi, I have large volumes 8TB+ and was looking at setting Vault store partion to Tape size of 2.35TB, however there appers to be no option to set the rollover for Vault partion size just the Disk volume size. I would prefer this to be auto rather then me doing it manualy since we have over 80TB to archive So the idea is that for each Disk Volume I have 3 Partions (Ptn1,Ptn2 and Ptn3) of 2.35TB each leaving 16% for operations disk volume, and get them to roll over to the next automaticaly once prtitions are filled up. cheers731Views3likes4Comments
