How to manage the Enterprise Vault data content when it grows big and you are running out of disk space ?
Hi People, Can anyone suggest to me what is the best way to manage and sustain the Enterprise Vault data that grow bigger and larger every month ? My situation is that whenever my Exchange Server 2007 database drive is running low of disk space, I'd go to lower down the EV archive items from 6 months into 5 months and now down to 3 months just to create some room to breathe in the Exchange Server mailbox. I understand that this is not resolving the problem in the best way as it should since we just shifting away the disk space usage from Exchange into the Enterprise Vault. However what are my options to manage and sustain the growing data in the EV ? Can i offload to tape for the Vault data disk and then deleting it manually, what happens with the indexing and search when the data is archived to tape and I want to retrieve it later for some reason ? Any kind of assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.Solved2.3KViews3likes12CommentsSymantec Enterprise Vault Archive Vault backup & Virus Scanning best practice

Hi all, I have just uploaded a new version of EV Dashboard to www.evdiscuss.net/download. It includes a new Singe Instance Storage Report. Thanks go to JesusWept2 for providing the SQL query, which I have wrapped up in some ASP. A new table needs to be created 'SISReport', within the EVDashboard database. The code to create the table is in the /sql/EVDashboard Database Creation/CreateTables.sql. Enjoy, Jeremy.2.3KViews0likes31CommentsHuge amount on Items awaiting backup & Centera (replicated and non-replicated)
Hi, I detected a huge amount of items awaiting backup in an installation with a stand-alone Centera (9,000,000+ items) and have been working on the VS databases to get rid of the savesets waiting for replication, but the items awaiting backup start growing again as expected (as new emails are bieng archived to Centera). I checked in other two EV installations with Centera (one of them is being replicated indeed) and found the same thing. Every technote I´ve found about this behavior except one points to the fact that the replication queue at Centera is not being emptied (items are not being replicated successfully) but in one of the stand-alone Centera scenarios the EMC administrator claims there´s no such thing as a a replication queue in a Centera that is not being replicated. I found this technote about permissions on the default Centera pool when using a PEA file to access a dedicates pool which is our case and I´ll try to apply it and see what happens:http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH65247 Obviously I´m not a Centera expert. Any idea? Thanks! Jose LuisSolved1.7KViews0likes8CommentsRestoring email deleted from enterprise vault archive with Backup Exec

Hello all, Using EV90SP2, with EMC Centera as storage for Journal Stores. On 1 Journal server, there is an issue with 'items awaiting backup/replication'. This seems to be due to 1 clip being parked (viewable in the EMCCenteraViewer) EMC support has been working on that for longer than a week now, and I thought to ask here if annyone possibly has a solution. I have found a KB article showing how to find the items that are in the clip. That works fine. EMC has been trying to replicate the clip, but until now they have failed to get it replicated, and thus disappear from the parking. Thanks to an article of JW3, I traced the StorageFileWatch on that specific JournalServer, and it does show that it is checking the replication for that specific clip. 65109:06:09.464 [10096](StorageFileWatch)<9528>EV:L{CCenteraItemSecuredVerifier::CheckItem} (Entry) ItemName = [5HQF71RA63EL0e40KAJ6M8EA421G417OU8F96H03C3QGJ2DGMAP5A] That number is the clip being parked. I believethat this clip being parked is causing SFW to stop, due to this message in the dtrace: 937109:06:11.570 [10096](StorageFileWatch)<4004>EV:MCCenteraItemSecuredVerifier::CheckItem Warning: Watch file partition scan will be stopped for following EMC Centera partition as consecutive [1] clips have not been replicated.|Partition Name = [VS Journaling EV0515 Ptn01]|VaultStoreEntryId = [1BDAB7E79851DB14E9181E77F369057891210000EV001]. Does anyone know if and how replication can be forced for this clip? Should the clip be deleted? (causing dataloss?) Can the clip be 'recreated' somehow, so it replicates properly? Any other option to get it going again? Thanks for your input.Solved1.3KViews0likes10CommentsChanging Enterprise Vault Disk Drive
Hello, I have Symantec Enterprise Vault version 11. running on a VM and subsequant MS SQL Server on saperate VM. Both VMs have 2 hard disks, each hard disk allocated from different LUN. Once disk for OS and the other for Data. Enterprise Vault keep eating disk space and every time we extend the dis space, unfortuantly the extension of the disk space is going wrong every time and it shows that the other dirves which has been extened to the original volume. The current volme (Drives E:\) is 290 GB Now, I'm thinking of replacing the volume which contains the Archives Vault Data with bigger volme. The old disk extension was added as different disk and extending the E:\ drive from those disks.. Which I think it's a bad idea since the VMDK disk is thin provisioned where it can be increased from the VM itself and use Diskpart command to extend the Volume. To make it short, what is the procedure of making changing the drive of Index Vault; 1. Stop put Vauls in offline / maintenance mode. 2. Stop EV services. 3. Put SQL DBs in offline mode. 4. Add new Drive with bigger volume and Backup/Restore the contents of Drive E:\ to the new drive added 5. Change the drive letter back to E:\. Does this will work? Please share your experiance.
