I believe that you should have put on 9 then 11, skipping 10.

But I could not even install it when I uninstalled the old version

I'm having the same problem, but I installing a fresh copy of BE 11d on a new test server. I'm installing it as a demo. It stops when it tries to install the SQL DB. It shows the progress and it just stays like that for several ours then it finished with the error: "wizard was interrupted before BE could be completely installed.

All,
On the last screen of the install is a link to view the install log. In 11d, the install log is written in XML format, and should have errors written in red with a link to an install error code. Click the link to see if we already have a knowledgebase article on the error.
If not, please post the error codes you are receiving and I will research the error and post a soslution.
Thanks,
Daniel

Mark,
As mentioned before, 11d cannot be upgraded from 8.x. Is your server clean now, or are you trying to upgrade from 8.x?
If you are trying to upgrade from 8.x, then you need to either uninstall and reinstall fresh, or upgrade to 9 or 10 and then 11.
If you are starting with a fresh server, the you will need to log a support case to track down why 11d thinks there is 8.x on the system.
Thanks,
Daniel
