I get the following error during a backup.

Backup- LW15SERVER10AOFO: Initialization failure on: "\\LW15SERVER10\C:". Advanced Open File Option used: Symantec Volume Snapshot Provider (VSP).
Snapshot provider error (0xE0008538): The volume cannot be snapped using Advanced Open File Option (AOFO) because it is not a drive that is permanently attached to the target computer.Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.
AOFO: Initialization failure on: "\\LW15SERVER10\D:".

Both C and D drives are local drives so this error really makes no sense...thx

Hello Bobby,

We would like to know:
- do you have a licensed copy of AOFO?
- Are you selecting any other Remote Serevrs in this backup?
- Have you tried a Job without AOFO with the same selctions? Does that go through?

Thanks
Regards

Yes, this server is licensed to run AOFO. I have other servers in the same backup job but are not using AOFO. Some servers are Windows 2003 and VSS is taking care of open files. I have the job set to "Automatically select open file technology"

Hello,

Please refer to the following technotes to resolve this issue :

The error message: "The volume cannot be snapped using Advanced Open File Option (AOFO) because it is a read-only drive. Make sure that the drive is writeable and run the job again." (e0008539 HEX) occurs when running a backup using the VERITAS Advanced Open File Option. ]
