Access denied backing up Exchange Mailboxes

We are unable to successfully backup Exchange 2000 mailboxes (error: unable to attach to drive) nor can we create a new job to backup Exchange mailboxes (error: access denied). This job has worked in the recent past and no changes have been made to BE or the Exchange server. Apparently the problem has something to do with the BE default logon account since a new backup job for mailboxes fails when I try to select mailboxes. BE asks me to select an account and denies access for any and all accounts. All other backup jobs work fine including the Exchange information store job.

Try restarting the BE services and close and reopen the UI. It's possible it has some problem with logon accounts for connecting since it saves the one you used last to connect to another machine. This will at least allow you to start with clean connections and specify the new account.

Unfortunately that is not the solution.

Have you checked to make sure the mailbox associated with the BE logon account has not been deleted? Does the BE logon account still have rights to the mailbox?

Almost... The BE default account was hidden from the address book, thanks.
