Advanced Open File Option disk space requirement

I am considering purchasing Advanced Open File Option but I need to clarify one thing. The requirements say "Free disk space should at least equal the size of the backup job in MBs being backed up".
It says should so is this a requirement or a recommendation?
Does AOFO copy the entire backup job to disk before backing it up?
Does all of this disk space need to be on one volume or does each volume need free space at least equal to the portion of the backup job only on that volume?

Thanks

Hi,

Refer the technote given below :

What is the intended use of the Open File Option and the Advanced Open File Option?
http://support.veritas.com/docs/263784

How to get Advanced Open File Option to snap one volume at a time during multi-volume backups.
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/264464.htm

A backup job in Backup Exec 9.x or 10.0 fails with the error: "Unable to get minimum quiet time window for physical volume" and "The semaphore timeout period has expired" when Advanced Open File Option is used.

If I understand http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/263784.htm correctly, all three AOFO options in BackupExec 10 take a snapshot of an entire volume - not just files that are open. Is that right?

In short, the reality of it is that it is a recommendation, not a requirement. I have never observed disk space shortage warnings on my servers that have over 50% disk usage before the AOFO backups run. However, you DO need to make sure you have a bit of space available.

Hope that helps

Steve
