All imported tapes in library become CLEANING MEDIA?

Hi everyone

I am using backup Exec 9.0 rev 4454, with a HP StorageWorks tape library. For some reason after the last tape import, all the tapes that were put in have been added to the Cleaning Media set by itself, and they are described as cleaning media. The system is able to scan the labels properly and the proper tape labels appear, but they just list as cleaning media.

I restarted the Storageworks library and restarted backup exec services... when I did an individual per-slot inventory, two of the tapes manage to come back to their proper media sets, but the rest are still listed as cleaning media..

can anyone please give me some advice on how to deal with this?

Thanks

Hello Richard,

As a preliminary step, make sure that you have updated Backup Exec v9.0 to Backup Exec v9.1. It addresses many issues and enhancements from an earlier versions and Build of Backup Exec v9.0. Refer the following technotes:

Title: VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 for Windows Servers revision 4691.1 (Single .ZIP download)

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/264658.htm

Title: VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 for Windows Servers General Information

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/262414.htm

Note: 1. BEWS 9.1 is a free downloadable upgrade inclusive of previously installed agents and options from Backup Exec 9.0 for Windows Servers agents and options.

2. Update all agents/options on all remote systems.

Also perform the following.

- Disable removable storage (RSM) service on that device. In most of the cases, it has been seen that VERITAS device driver does not work properly with RSM if possible try to disable the service itself.

- Update the Firmware of the Drive to the latest.

Ensure that you have the latest drivers installed

Hope this helps.
