Don't quite follow

Your daily job is set to append?
what is the APP for the media set?

When it says the tape is full, it will not overwrite until the OPP has expired - What is the OPP for the media set?

How many tapes are in the rotation?
How much data is backed up per job?
what kind of tape drive and media are you using?

If your job is defined as Overwrite, and you swap tapes every day and you are completeing each job on one tape (getting 120 GB on an 80/160 tape for 1.5:1 compression) I don't see how the tapes can be marked as full

If they were filling up, then I could understand the non-appendable, but ...

You may have to break down and open an incident on this, 'cause I sure don't see anything more to chase at this point Smiley Sad

using two tapes. The firt gets to 85g or so and then when the next tape gets ready to load it thinks #2 is write protected or something.

In a loader?

if you run an inventory before the job starts, do both tapes show in BLUE ?

Gastino

Yes and yes

In that case I can't see why the appendable status comes into play at all

The first tape is overwritten and fills up, and as such will be non-appendable

The second tape is also overwritten (all continuation tapes are overwrite regardless of whether the job itself is Append or Overwrite) but should have some append space after the job ends   However since the job is defined as Overwritem this shouldn't matter)
