BACKUPEXEC seems to intermittently shut down

Hi

Environment:
WINDOWS 2003 Standard Server SP1 4 Xeon 2.4 2 GB ram
Veritas 9.1 Rev 4691

We have Backup EXEC 9.1. About 6 mths ago I installed an external scsi Sony SDX D900V 200G AIT4 uncompressed daisy chained to 2 older Exabytes that are not in use, except for old restores.

I notice from time to time that the backup job will fail. Except for that I have set the job to cancel after 4 hrs of non completion. (There are several jobs). On the weekend (Fri SAT SUN the tape isnt changed. All jobs are set to append if no room overwrite, all tapes should be set to the same.

I come in MON am and the SAT aft job is still running! The software has ejected the tape. When i cancel the running job then I get message please insert scratch or overwritable media. I then try to catalog the tape and I get message that the Engine has stopped.

I would like to know if it is possible
-the reason the tape was ejected
-Why the engine seems to have stopped.
-If i need to adjust the jobs to work better

Here are some messages I get:

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Backup Exec Alert: Job Failed
(Server: "DDMTLDC01") (Job: "Catalog 0032") Catalog 0032 -- The job failed with the following error: The Backup Exec job engine system service is not responding.

Hi Jamie,

Under what account are the services running?

Try starting them under Local System account.

Also what data are you backing up? Is it a local or a remote backup?
