BE 10 & Tape Drive Interleaving?

Does BE 10 support multiple streams to the tape?

The problem I have is our Netware servers can't stream as fast as the tape drive can write. It would be nice to put a second stream to the tape to maximize the tape drive. I don't forsee the restore taking much longer since it will be about the same performance in restoring.

No not possible - only 1 stream can be written to the tape at a time.

Do any one know if multiple datastreams to same tape is planned in future release of BackupExec or do i have to look for enterprise solutions like Veritas NetBackup?

Don't hold your breath

v7 had an add-on called RaidDirector that would stripe tapes just like RAID stripes disks

It vanished with v8 and has not been heard from since.


You could go to http://enhancement.veritas.com/ and suggest this.

You can do multi-streaming with backup-to-disk. Use a backup-to-disk device, multistream your NetWare server and then duplicate the data to tape (during the day or whenever)
