BE 12.5 jobs queue, waiting for tape

Lately my jobs end up in a queue and are waiting for tapes, and I don't get why?

I keep getting these errors:

Backup- \\SID-SRV-CTRL\Microsoft Information Store\First Storage Group
Media mount failed.
User canceled a Physical Volume Library operation.
V-79-57344-33861 - The media operation was terminated by the user.
Backup- \\sid-srv-dat.SCANID.local\D:
Media mount failed.
User canceled a Physical Volume Library operation.
V-79-57344-33861 - The media operation was terminated by the user.
Backup- \\sid-srv-sql.SCANID.local\System?State
Media mount failed.
User canceled a Physical Volume Library operation.
V-79-57344-33861 - The media operation was terminated by the user.
Backup- \\SID-SRV-CTRL\Microsoft Information Store\First Storage Group
Media mount failed.
User canceled a Physical Volume Library operation.
V-79-57344-33861 - The media operation was terminated by the user.

in combination with these:
Please insert overwritable media in the robotic library using the import command.

Version is 12.5, installed on Win server 2003.
We use a Sony AIT taperobot. Some jobs work well, some queue.
When I respond to the media alert nothing happens.
When I cancel the job and start the same job again everything works fine.
I've cleaned the tapestreamer.
I have more failures on my monday job (full backup on two tapes), then on the others, but also the monday job does succeed sometimes.
Have about 20% failure on my jobs.
On the weekends there is a backup job to disk, and this one never fails.
So I'll guess it's the tapestreamer/robot.
But how can I test this, how can I find out what is actually wrong.

Load up HP Library and Tape Tools and check if there is an error with your drive.
You can also reinstall your Symantec drivers, and try a backup to disk. If that works, then it might be a physical problem with your autoloader. Also check that Removable Storage is set to manual or disabled, which is a Symantec recommendation.
I've had my jobs stay queued, or ask for overwritable media when the tapes weren't scratch.

Since it's a Sony tapestreamer I've just downloaded a Sony tool to check for errors, and updated the firmware for the taperobot and the tapestreamer.
I'll now reinstall the Symantec drivers.

these two taken together lead me to beleive that the tapes are expiring a day too late to be used.  ie job starts at 21:00, tape is still protected.  Volume goes off protection at 00:01 and thus is accepted the next morning

Try setting all your OPPs down by 1 day

All media is overwritable.
Today the same error.
Job was queued after 158 GB, asking for the second tape. The monday job is assosiated with a set who has two tapes.
It's a robot so the second tape is just waiting, the media is overwritable. I have no idea what he is waiting for.

If all media is overwritable, I have no idea why BackupExec will not continue on a second tape

unless someone else jumps in, you may need to open an incident with Symantec :(

We cured it by scheduling a daily inventory.  Not sure how often you're doing that, but it couldn't hurt.
