Backing up Individual shares over total volume

Hi,

What are the advantages of backing up individual shares on a file server, rather than the whole data volume?

 Does it improve performance?

As long as the remote agent is installed and SDR is not needed then both methods achieve the same thing (just the share level one splits the selections for separate management)

If you do share level backups with no remote agent then incremental and differential backups may not work properly. EDIT: and the overall performance is likely to suffer.

BTW to do share level backups you may have to enable the selection of user shares in the settings (disabled by default)

Don't forget to exclude the recycler if You use tapes or You will have it on tape...
