I'm creating a backup job that backs up to disk and then to tape.

Is there a way I can restore 1file from tape without restoring the whole .bkf file to disk first?

use a copy job to copy to tape rather then backing up the .bkf

When you use the duplicate option the contents of your B2D is duplicated to tape which makes it possible to restore a file directly from tape to the place the file came from. Just schedule a duplicate job which runs right after the B2D job.
