Backup Exec 11d Upgrade and Migration to 2010

We currently have a DL360 G4p running Windows 2003 Server R2 X86 and Backup Exec 11d.
We are in the process of upgrading from 11d to 2010 and we are moving to new hardware at the same time.
We need to ensure that all required configuration of the current server is migrated to the new server.
Since we are going to be using the deduplication feature, we will need an x64 bit system.

My questions are:
Would there be any real benefit to upgrade to windows 2008 server versus using 2003 server x64?

Is it possible to migrate from an x86 system to an x64 system while going from 11d to 2010?

Answers to your questions
1. Well the benifit would be in performance other than that nothing much
2. I belive you can do it  .check the compatibility list   http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/329254.htm
While moving from Backup Exec 11d on a 32-bit system to Backup Exec 2010on a 64-bit system, the recommended path would be to upgrade to BE 2010 on the 32-bit system first

Yes you can upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit with 2010
The other thing that you mentioned is you want to do dedeuplication, so if you want to have a dedeuplication then BE server hast to be 64 bit server.
Besides this below are some advantage of Ws 2008 over 2003

In Windows Server 2008, Microsoft is introducing new features and technologies, some of which were not available in 2003with Service Pack 1 (SP1), that will help to reduce the power consumption of server and client operating systems, minimize environmental byproducts, and increase server efficency
Even more significant power savings are made possible by Hyper-V, the hypervisor-based virtualization technology included as a server role in Windows Server 2008. Hyper-V makes it possible to consolidate servers onto a much smaller number of physical machines, significantly reducing power consumption without unduly sacrificing performance.

Thanks for the help!  Much appreciated.  I am in the process of putting together a MOP for the upgrade.  This was a huge help.

After the upgrade is over please download and install Hotfix 348284 from http://support.veritas.com/docs/348284
The above HF resolves all the known issue of BE2010.
