Backup Exec 12.0 SP1 and HP Autoloader 1/8 Ultrium 4 SAS

Backup Exec 12.0 SP1 and HP Autoloader 1/8 Ultrium 4 SAS.  Windows will see the tape drive.  Backup Exec will not.  I do not see it in the Symantec HCL list.  I already have 1 autoloader connected via scsi working.  Autoloader on SAS is not seen.

Is this your unit?

1/8 G2 Tape Autoloader [2] HP^^^^^^1x8^G2^AUTOLDR SAS Multi LUN HP StorageWorks Ultrium
1760 LTO4
HP^^^^^^Ultrium^4-SCSI SAS LTO

2. Minimum firmware level of 1.20 is required.

Do you have the minimum firmware?

The SCSI versus SAS shouldn't matter.

Backup Exec shows the Autoloader but not the actual tape drive?

Called HP support for the fix.  Tape drive must be in "Random" mode to work.

Having exact same problem, but random mode didnt resolve for me.  HP have sent me a new drive/chassis and now their sending me new tape cartridges.  I don't think it is a problem with them though.

I've rebooted many times now, upgraded the firmware for the tape/library etc but still no joy.

The drive is seen in windows but can't be used by ntbackup as dosen't see the library slots.  All of the device is seen in backup exec but when I try to do any job it just puts the drive offline etc.

Any ideas?

Any solutions?

I want to sell the combination Backup Exec and HP Autoloader 1/8 Ultrium 4 SAS

and don't want to make my life miserable ,o)

On the HP compatiblitygrid, Backup Exec is listed as compatible with the 1/8 Ultrium 4 SAS.

So, did anyone get those both to work with each other?
