Backup Exec 12.5 / 2010 and VMware

Hello.

I currently have BE 12.5, and this is how I've understood that it takes backup of virtual machines (guests):
1) Backup Exec asks Virtual Center to create a snapshot of a guest.
2) Backup Exec copies the snapshot (directly from a VMware host or through the Virtual Center server?) into its VCB proxy area
3) Backup Exec writes the snapshot to a specified target location

Now I am wondering how this works in BE 2010. From what I understand, it copies the snapshot directly from the hosts, such
that steps 1 and 3 are eliminated?

I am trying to document how our setup will be once we get 2010.

Thank you!

Backup exec 2010  does not use VMware VCB framework for backup.  Converter is used only for restore of legacy sets.
Mountvm(part of vcbframework) is used for GRT restores of legacy sets.

•Backup process Is as follows :
–Create a  snapshot of the VM using VI api.
•Snapshots are uniquely identified and can be seen in the VI client
•Eg: SYMC-FULL 05-07-2009 15:49
–Use the VI apiand backup the VM configuration info.
–Use the VI api’sto identify the disks from the snapshot created above.
–Use VDDK api’sfor backup of disks identified above
–Remove the snapshot.
