Backup Exec 2010 Fails to Install Remote Agent on 2008 x64 - Error 1603

Backupexec 2010 R2 running on Windows 2003 R2 32 bit

Trying to install the agent on a Win 2008 R2 64 bit - however it fails with error 1603.

I've tried to install the agent manually from the 2008 server by copying the 2 folders from the 2003 server, but the 2 files in the MSXML are 0k in size

Can I download the 2 files from the MSXML folder elsewhere?

You can download the files from Microsoft:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=993c0bcf-3bcf-4009-be21-27e85e1857b1

But normally you should also find these files on the installation DVD.

Thanks, downloaded the x64 file, replaced it on the 2008 server, tried the manual install and it still fails, this time with error 1620.

So the 1620 error means the install package may be corrupt, I take it its the manual backupexec install package it means.

Try to install it manually. Run the setup from the installation DVD:

(DVD):\BE\WinNT\Install\RAWSx64

Hi, unfortunately I don't have the physical media, it was downloaded, and the .exe install files in the RAWSx64 folder are all 0k

I'll try and re-downoad the media from Symantec

Ok, just spent the last few hours downloading the ISO from symantec  Backup_Exec_2010_13.0.4164_MultiPlatforms_Multilingual_DVD.iso

..and the files in RAWx64 are 0k!

...I take it you have checked the installation directory on your backup server:

Yep, tried that - and thats when I get the 1620 error

Mmm...couple of other things to try would include:

1. Stopping and disabling any AV on that server;

2. Stopping UAC if you run it;

3. Stopping a firewall if running.

Did you download the single .iso from www.backupexec.com or did you download multiple .iso files from the Fileconnect portal ?

No, I downloaded the installer from;

The one on fileconnect is for R3 and we are only running R2

I'll try downloading the fileconnect R3 version
