In the process of installing BE2010, with the Synthetic backup add-on.   Can I backup Synthetic, by just using tapes or does the initial backup require a disk?

Baseline can be disk or tape

incrementals must be a B2D

The final Synthetic can be disk or tape.

Synthetics do not support the Dedupe storage folder yet.

Synthetics are also pretty much limited to ONLY file servers.

Synthetics in Backup Exec ONLY have seen issues with high file counts, to take longer than the actual full itself.  NetBackup does not have this issue.

"In a policy that contains a synthetic backup, incremental backups must use backup-to-disk folders or virtual tape libraries as destination devices. You cannot save the policy if one of these devices is not available".
