Hi All,

I have downloaded New Backup Exec 2012 and installed in my testing server. I have following to be calarified

1.) Is this version of BE is supporting to backup directly to Tape?

2.) I'm under Service Maintenance Agreement and I need to get my new Licens keys for 2012, so where can I get my new licens keys?

3.) How to enable or disable "Deduplication" in BE 2012?

4.) How to get Backup Job Properties to edit things such as Open File Opetion\Schedule\Backup Method (Full\Incrimental\Differential)\Etc.

Hi,

Can I directly Upgrade my BE 2010 to 2012 without installing freshely?

Direct upgrade is possible from BE2010 to BE2012 but if you have less number of jobs

configured in BE2010 than I would suggest you to perform a fresh installation of BE2012

and reconfigure jobs.

How to enable or disable "Deduplication" in BE 2012?

You need to install Deduplication option inorder to use that feature.

For deduplication to happen on backups (enabling), just you have to target your backup jobs at deduplication storage instead of using tape library or general disk storage.

If you select tape or normal disk storage as target, then dedup doesn't occur on the backup data (i would say this as disabling dedup on particular backups).

If you want to remove the feature completely, you can remove the deduplication option from BE.

How to get Backup Job Properties to edit things such as Open File Opetion\Schedule\Backup Method (Full\Incrimental\Differential)\Etc.

For creating backup job right click on server from backup and restore window and click on Backup. You can see a window seperated for selections and schedules.

Edit selections to choose files and folders to be backedup. Edit Schedules to edit schedules, storage, media sets and other settings like open file bakcup, Check point etc...

To edit already created jobs, double click on server, select jobs from left menu, double click on the job.

Deduplication Storage is the actual dedup folder which you need to create on the local drive of 

the Backup Exec Media server. Symantec recommends a dedicated drive for the dedup folder,

BE2012 supports upto 32TB of dedup folder size. For more information about Deduplication 

option read Admin Guide Page# 751 onwards

You can configure deduplication disk storage using configure storage wizard. It is recommende to use a dedicated volume to create it (Either local or SAN attached). RAM requirements are clearly explaind in the TN pointed by Amol. Limitation is only one deduplication storage folder is allowed per media server. If you do not have a single volume that can hold all the dedup data, then you have to go for multiple media servers (prefarably CASO).

In respect to license: we too  have BE 2010 and a current maintenance contract with Symantec. I download the trial of BE 2012 and ready to license it. I rang up to get our license key and was told I would have to purchase an additional license for BE 2012.

Is this correct ppl? We have about 30 servers and one backup server- how much is this license?
