Backup Exec 58057

I have Backup Exec 2010 R2 on Windows Server 2008 machine. I have removable backup HDDs. When I detach this HDD (to save out of office)< I received next message in the Event Log:

Source: Backup Exec

ID: 58057

Backup Exec Alert: Media Error
(Server: "Backup2") The Backup-to-Disk device is offline.

This is typically caused by the folder becoming inaccessible due to it being deleted, renamed, or unshared. It may also be caused by a disk full condition. The folder state has been set to offline. Please attend to this condition. Additional detail may be found in the Event Viewer - Application Log.

I don't want this message in Event Log. I'm wating in this Log only need me messages. can I solve my problem?

Hi,

This is by design, backup exec will constantly look for the if the media connected are online OR offline.

Verify that you have created the "removable Backup-to-Disk folder" on the USB hard drive.

Please refer to following technote:

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/253764.htm

However note that when swapping drives or media, you will have to do the following:
1. Stop all Backup Exec services
2. Swap the drive
3. Start all Backup Exec services

Solution2:

Go to Alerts-->Alert Catagories-->Media Alert and set "Automatically clear alert after" 1 minute.

Hi MIchael,

I'd suggest reading pkh's article that explains how to rotate disks...very informative!

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/how-rotate-external-harddisks

Thanks!

Yes read the PKH article however definitely do not use the Removable Backup to Disk Folder type unless your are using Cartridge based removable hard disks (i.e RDX disks) USB disks where the whole device is removed should use standard Backup to disk devices

When swapping devices I cannot  stop all Backup Services. During swapping devices I have other running jobs using other backup devices.

So I disable swap device, do change and enable new device.
