Backup Exec 8.6 wont back up - "loading media"

Hi, I have a client who is using Backup Exec ver 8.60 Rev 3878. Recently their backups wouldnt start and the status was loading media. Ive tried to cancel the job and let it start the following nite, rebooting the sever, recreating the backup job, new tapes, cleaning the drive, i even sent the drive to get serviced all to no avail.
Prior to this is was working perfectly.
Any help would be very much appreciated

When this happens, is there an active alert of any kind?

Any Event Log entries?

Does the drive pass the manufacturer diagnostics?

No there is no alerts and the only thing relating to the backup job that is mentioned within the event log is the time etc that i cancelled the job.

Again there is no issues when the drive diagnostics are run?

Is the job Overwrite or append?

when you change tapes, do you do an inventory?

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you Ken. The job is set to overwrite, however i do not do an inventory when changing tapes. Should i have?

Yeah

It's the only way to tell BackupExec that the tape has changed
