Hello All,

We use Win Server 2003 + BE 12.5 + Tape Library as backup server in a VM, since some hardware problem here; We want to migrate the backup solution. But I'm not clarify that how can i reinstall the BE12.5, since the software buy almost 5 years ago and i cannot find out the license key... and i contact symantec for help. They need me provide the certificate on our license for checking.

May I ask whether i can get any license information via backup Exec or do anyone know how can i perform the migration, do i also need to reinstall the backup agent??? and if we want to add a NAS to do an additional backup via backup exec, can we do this or anyone can provide a direction to me. Thanks so much!!

Regards,

Niki

Hi Niki,

Be aware that BE installed on a VM and accessing a physical device like a library is strictly not supported. The previous comment by the Symantec employee does not indicate this, just how to get your license file! Since only a small part of your questions have been answered, check below...

To migrate BE is easy enough...follow the TN below for this:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH67768

You should also have a customer number...try signing up for the Symantec licensing portal and see if you can find your key there.

Backing up to a NAS is supported, but you need to check the BE 12.5 HCL to see if it is supported or not. See below:

1 way around this is to use iSCSI and present an iSCSI LUN from your NAS to your media server, if the NAS supports this. Read below on how I did this with Iomega NAS's.

You might also want to verify the use of your NAS by downloading b2dtest.exe.

Thanks!
