We have backup exec run at 5:15 to backup MS Exchange.  Sometimes when this happens the system hangs and we have a network outage.  Currently all we can tell is that this is caused by the posibility that someone might be using email during this.  Here's the errors we get in Event Viewer:

When you run Exchange backups, you would use the Exchange agent which is loaded on the primary backup server. If your Exchange server is stand-alone, the primary server uses the Remote Agent for Windows on that server, and then it uses the Exchange agent loaded (and when you select the Information Store) to backup Exchange.
Irrespective of whether or not someone has their email open, your backups should be going through. That's what the Exchange agent is for (allowing online backups). I'd check to make sure that it isn't possibly dismounting your store, or that your store isn't already dismounted during this period (it can happen when your logs haven't been cleared due to backups not running), and that the Remote Agent for Windows on that server is running correctly.
