Backup Failed, AOFO/Snapshot Handle errors

BE 10. v5520, HF13, HF15, HF17, SP1 installed
SBS 2k3 SP1,

Trying to do a full backup of a local server C:\.
I keep running into these two errors:
A:)Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe0008524 - Unable to initialize the snapshot because the Advanced Open File Option (AOFO) is not installed on the target computer. You must install this option, restart the computer, and then run the job again.
Final error category: System Errors

For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-34084

B:)Job ended: Friday, December 30, 2005 at 11:34:05 AM
Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe000fec2 - A failure occurred accessing the SnapShot handle.
Final error category: Resource Errors

For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-65218

I get error A when running the backup to tape with AOFO off, error B when AOFO is on, so this is a catch 22 situation. AOFO is not installed/licensed. The 'Never' box is checked in Advanced to not backup open files with AOFO is not used.

Ideas?

I'd like to add that I have already deleted and recreated the job several times.

2nd reply to myself.
Went through the job setup again.
AOFO option is off, but in the summary log I see:
Advanced Open File
Use Advanced Open File Option: Yes

What gives?
And is there a way to change the Snapshot Provider from Automatic to us MS VSS by default? It's acting like it's trying to use the Veritas AOFO option rather than the default/free with OS/not an addin paid to Veritas/MS VSS that NTbackup uses.

Hi, The article/answer didn't really help our situation.

We are getting the same error, we don't use AOFO, and the whole screen in the Job setup is greyed out, so how can we turn it off OR on.

Regards, Marcus

Exactly.
If I turn AOFO off, and tell it to not use the MS Shadow Copy, what is the advantage of the product?
