Backup Reporting - Detail list of expected vs actual contents of Tape

Hi everyone,

I am trying to meet a management requirement that I list all expected data locations along with size against actual contents of the tape used to backup.  I can't find a way in the custom reporting to select device and job contents.  Could someone assist a "rookie"?   Thanks for your assistance.

Unfortunately the level of detail available in either the 'canned reports' or the custom definitions, mean that you are unable to create a report with both the media used and the specific contents of that media. Custom reports are based on fields from Category groups and only one group can be selected for each report. As you will need to select information from the Media and Job History groups to get a better picture, this will not be possible in one report. The detail that the Job History group provides is also not granular enough to provide details of the directories and files backed up, only the quantities of each.

If this is a requirement, you may be able to generate something using the actual Job Logs and the BEMCMD utility, to export that data to a form you can manipulate. The BEMCMD -o30 and -031 switches allow for Job Logs to be saved in Text or HTML format.
You should be aware that if Job Logs are configured to record details of all files and directories backed up, they can become very large. This makes them difficult to convert and can also impact opening them in the Backup Exec console .

Please review the Backup Exec Command Line Utility (BEMCMD) Guide for the appropriate version of Backup Exec you are using. These are available at the Backup Exec Support pages, under Documentation.
