As suggested by Sazz you need to upgrade to backup exec 12.5 or 2010 to backup you Sql 2008 database.
Currently as workaround you can backup the database using the Sql mangement studio and then backup the bak files using backup exec .
You would need to update the License to upgrade the licenses as well and get in touch with the Licensing dept .
