Backup Speed

hi,

i am using Backup Exec 2010 with remote agents on my different servers. I have a question on the backup speed on one of my server.

Its about the backup of my mail server ( data :110go) . It's a DMZ server which is directly conneted to the Firewall DMZ interface with a 1 gbit/s link.

Before the link was in 100Mbits/s and I backed up the data in 4 hours ( 400 mbit/min ).

Since I upgrade to 1 gibts/s ,I backup the data in 2h Hours ( 800mbits/min).

I only multiplied by 2 the backup speed,  I think i would multiplied by  3 or 4 the speed.  What do you think about that ? is there anything i should do on BackupExec.

Thank you

Link speed is not the only factor. You may have other problems like CPU, disk speed, etc.

There are many variables that affect throughput performance for backup/restores. Please check article below which precisely explains the causes and possible solutions based on the environment:

...have you hard-coded your NICs on the servers and switch ports to the fastest speed possible?

Might also be worth your while checking out the link below for more of an explanation:

Thank you for your informations.

Switch Ports are in gbits -  Can you tell me how you "Hard-code" the NICs on the server?

On Other Servers speed backup can reach 3000Mbits/s.

I notice that i backup all my data on a LTO4 Media.

You would log onto the server, go to the properties of your NIC/s, and then set them from Automatic (assumed to be this setting) and onto something like 1000GB FULL. You would see the NICs drop their connection though, so be aware of this.

Thanks!
