Backup VMware Server by Backup Exec

Hi, I have a lot of questions in my mind and can't find useful resource from website. Could you please help me with these questions?

Current I am using VMware Server (Free) to host some virtual machines. I want them backed up. I have Backup Exec for Windows NT and Windows 2000 Version 8.6.

Q1, Can I use this version to backup VMware machines? not inside the VM. (by snapshot?)
Q2, If I can, do I need to install any patch for BE8.6? Do I also need to install some api for VMware?
Q3, If I can, do I need to shutdown the vm? I want it running 24 hours. can I?
Q4, If I can't, can I upgrade BE8.6 to BE11d, and can BE11d backup vms when they are running?
Q5, how much to upgrade to BE11d?

If you don't have time, can give me some reference to read. Thanks!Smiley Happy

Thanks a lot for any help!!!

Probably not. I don't think BE 8.6 had AOFO (snapshot) as an option

You'll be able to backup the VM if you shut it down.

You should be able to use BE11d with the Advanced Open File Option to backup VMs while they are running. I haven't tried this though.

Q5, how much to upgrade to BE11d?

That depends. You should be able to find a reseller near you.
