Backup a server without Client for Microsoft Networks Installed

we are using Backup Exec 11d and have successully installed the remote agent on a couple of servers so far. However we have one server that sits outside our domain which we can only connect to via IP and can be accessed via http by the public.

Due to security risks the 'Client for Microsoft Networks' protocol has been uninstalled from this server. I have manually installed the backup exec remote agent on this server but have not been able to add it to our backup list still.

Can anyone confirm or deny whether it is possible to backup a Windows 2003 server without the 'Client for Microsoft Networks' protocol installed on that server?

Thanks in advance.....

I think (though don't quote me) that you don't need the client to actually perform a backup, but it is used to create the browse lists used for backup selection lists.
You may be able to add the server through the text view.

In the selection list, click the View Selection Details tab, then in the path put: \\123.123.123.123\C:\

Obviously you may need to change the IP address and the drive.

Note that I haven't tested this myself...
