Backup compression

Hi, folk

I have a scheduled rotation backup job which incrementally backup on Monday to Thursday (append mode) and fully backup on Friday (overwrite mode). I use Sony Autoloader Lib-D81A3Ex (with SDX-800V AIT-3Ex drive) and Backup Exec 10.1d for the task. The full backup uses two AIT-3Ex tapes and the daily backup uses one tape.

I select "Hardware if applicable, otherwise none" for the compression settings. However when I check the media status, it shows the ratio for the first tape is 1.30:1 but the second tape is 1:1. The daily tape is 1:1 as well.

Obviously, the Sony drive supports hardware compression. But why BE doesn't compress the second full backup tape and the incremental tape?

Any comment will be appreciate.

Hello,

Backup Exec is not responsible for compression

Its the device that does the compression, however Backup Exec only displays it in the job log

Compression also depends on what files are being backed up

Thanks
