Backup slow after upgrade/reinstall

I have version 10, Revison 5520 running on a Windows XP machine. It is backed up to a Sony AIT-3 tape. Backup was running flawlessly on the system. For some reason I had started to have some problems with the service not starting. I installed the newest build but still had the problems. So I decided to reformat the system and reinstall everything. When I did that I used the same settings as before for BE. However my backup times went up 3-6 fold.

Here are some examples:
Information Store (Exchange 2003) - Before - 14minutes, after install 1hr 15minutes.
Home directory (running on FreeBSD with Linux agent) - Before - 34minutes, After - 3Hrs. 19 minutes.

This, of course, is without verification. One backup that usually takes between 4-6hrs., is now taking 22hrs. Kind of makes it hard to do things with so long backup times.

I am backing up 3 FreeBSD servers, 3 Windows 2003 Servers (no SP1), 1 Windows 2000 Server, 1 Exchange 2003 IS, 1 SQL Server Database. It is all going over a GB connection and I have Trend-Micro Client/Messaging Suite installed. I also have XP's firewall turned off on this machine.

Any ideas and/or help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark Irving

I forgot to add that the backup is consistently slow no matter which platform I am on.

After trying a lot of things and not getting any help from this support forum, I decided to start eliminating some of the possible causes. I did a backup to folder (on hard drive) and the backup that took 2hrs. 13min. to complete to tape, took 20min.!

So it appears that it may be a driver issue with Veritas and my Sony AIT-3 drive. I am using the Veritas driver. I will try with the Sony driver.
