Backup sql server database and transaction log using native backup and Veritas Exec

Hi,

I am not a DBA. I have a customer who is using SQL server native backup and Veritas Backup Exec to backup the database and transaction log on the same database. The backup are not conducted concurrently.

I would like to check if this is an acceptable way to perform backup. And can the database be restored using the native restore or the Veritas Backup Exec?

I don’t see any issues in dump and sweep backups. This is simplest approach for any DB backups.

FYI if your BE version and MSSQL version is compatible you can suggest your customer to switch to online dB backup method. This will relatively cut down on time taken for backup. And it’s easier too.
