Backup stuck at "Pre-Processing" message when backing up primary disk

Hi

Backup Exec for Windows Server 9.1 Rev 4691 on Windows 2000 Server.

When doing a backup that includes the primary disk (C: drive) the backup gets stuck indefinitely on the message "Pre-Processing". This does not happen if the primary disk C: is not included i.e. any secondary drives and sql server backup fine.

I have tried the following solutions but no luck;

This http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/256123.htm does not seem to apply to our situation as I can not seem to find file C:\_BEVspCacheFile_0.TMP.

What can I do to fix this problem?

A follow up; when I turn off Advanced Open File then backup works fine. What am I doing wrong?
