Backup to Disk

Hi,

I am looking to implement a backup to disk strategy but I seem to be having a little trouble.

Essentially what I am looking to do is this:

Perform a backup to a NAS Drive every Friday, keeping 5 weeks worth of backups. So on the sixth week the oldest backup is overwritten, leaving the remaining four intact, thus keeping the disk usage under control.

Is this achievable without routine manual intervention? If so could somebody point me in the right direction. At the moment a new backup file is being created every time and none are being overwritten.

Regards

Kris

On the MediaSet you are using modify the overwrite proction to Protect 28 days.

Agree with ZeRoC00L, proper management of the media set should mean you need no manual intervention

In addition

make your jobs all OVERWRITE not Apppend

from tools\Options\Media Management  select the option to "use overwriteable media in the target media set before scratch media"

if you want to overwrite on the 6th week/42nd day, I'd set the OPP to 41 days.

Agree with ZeRoCool and Ken on the points that they have put up. So based on theis points here are the detailed technotes which you can use as refernces to know more about the Media management which will probably answer your other queries also.
