Hi! Our customer is planning to have backup exec in their infrastructure. We will be backing up workstations to file server. Is this possible? They don't want to but any additional storage or hardware. Is it also advisable to run backup exec on vm on same physical server where file server is residing with other apps? Thanks!

Yes, if the NAS is connected to the virtual media server via iSCSI or as a file share

Yes, you can configure a Disk Storage on a File Server.

And yes, you can run BE on a VM provided you are backing up to disk and not tape storage.

Not any disk. The disk have to be connected to the virtual media server via iSCSI out as a file share

Note that you need to have a remote agent licence for each workstation that you backup. It might be cheaper to use DLO to backup the workstations

Is it possible to backup directly to NAS storage?
