Has anybody been able to restore with BackupExec 12.5?  I just updated the BUE Server Software with hotfix 309248.  I have the following:

Media Server: 12.5 Rev 2213

Adminstration Console: V 12.5 Rev 2213

The 'BackupExecSvc' account is a domain-admin, not hidden from exchange, mailbox on Exchange 2007, Exchange 2007 Server administrator pirvileges both in exchange and on the server explicitly.  The following Symantec support docs have been tried with no luck.

http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/288370.htm

http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/306689.htm - Multiple Server Topology

PLEASE HELP.

thanks,

Zach

Is Mailbox for backup accout activated by sending an email and accessing it?

Exchange Management console version should be same on both servers.

The account being used is an active mailbox.  I sent an email to it - opened up the account in Outlook and it has several messages in it including the new one I sent.  The exchange management console is the same on both servers - 08.01.x

Try the registry settings in below technote.

See if you can expand legacy mailboxes from exchange 2007.

That will tell if this is a credential issue or something else.

http://support.veritas.com/docs/306281

Also make this account default account...

Making the registry change

1. To do this add DWORD Value "e2k7_mbox" with value 1, under HKLM\Software\Symantec\Backup Exec for Windows\Backup Exec\Engine\ESE on the Exchange 2007 machine

Does show 'Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes' in the server now, however when I try to expand that, I get an error message:

"An error was encountered while atempting to browse the contents of Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes.  Cannot log on to MAPI with the specified credentials.  Review the resource credntials for the job, and then run the job again"

It should be using the BackupExecSvc account we created.  It is a domain admin, an Exchange organizational admin, local admin on exchange server - what am i missing?

thanks,

Verify that Backup Exec logonaccount has all the required roles and satisfy mailbox accessrequirements.

1. Backup Exec logon account should have unique activemailbox. Activate the mailbox of Backup Exec "Logon Account" by sending an emailto his account and accessing the mailbox for this account.

2. Backup Exec"Logon Account" should have Exchange Organization Administrators or ExchangeServer Administratorsrole.
<http://support.veritas.com/docs/288777>
3. Ensure thatthe Backup Exec "Logon Account" being used to backup Exchange is a member ofDomain Administrators
4. Verify that the Backup Exec "Logon Account" mailboxbeing used to backup Exchange is not hidden from the Global AddressList
<http://support.veritas.com/docs/243328>
5. Verify thatthe Backup Exec "Logon Account" being used to backup Exchange is Unique withinExchangeOrganization
<http://support.veritas.com/docs/256537>
6.Verify that the Backup Exec "Logon Account" being used to backup Exchange is amember of Local Administrators Group on exchange server.

Or

1) Uninstallthe Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1from the Exchange Server.

2) Reboot theExchange Server.

3) Downloadthe Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1from the following link:

4) Installthe download and retry the job.

I have followed all of those steps except the re-install of the messaging API... on the exchange server.  I don't see how doing that would fix this issue.

Also, i did create a new account and gave permissions to the new account, except I did not make the new account a domain admin.  i'll go ahead and try that, but i don't think it will change anything considering the new account has admin priveleges within Exchange and on the server.  But i could be wrong.

thanks for the help - i'll post my results in an hour or two.

thanks,

Hey Zach,

I am having the exact same issue as you.  I have followed these steps as well without resolve.  I am able to backup the mailbox store successfully if I disable GRT in the Exchange settings.  But as you mention, I get the mapi error if I try to open the store when setting up a backup or trying to do a backup when GRT is enabled.  I try the last step and reinstalled MAPI/ CDO, but the did not help me.  Were you able to resolve this issue?

Thanks,

Adrian

Nevermind - I got it to work.  This fix/ change to the hosts file worked for me - http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/305539.htm

Same problem here.

GRT backup to Disk runs fine. Restore of individual mailbox items fails with "0xe000848c - Unable to attach to a resource".

OS Media Server: Windows Server 2008  STD x64 with 12.5 SP1 (running the MS Virtual Server hotfix)

OS Exchange CAS: Windows Server 2008 STD x64 (Exchange 2007 SP1 Update Rollup 5)

OS Exchange Store: Windows Server 2008 ENT x64

The 'BackupExecSvc' account is a domain-admin, not hidden from exchange, mailbox on Exchange 2007, Exchange 2007 Server administrator pirvileges both in exchange and on the servers explicitly.

Latest version (dec 2008) of MAPI/CDO installed on both Exchange Servers.

Backup Exec Remote Agent installed on both Exchange Servers.

IPv6 registry setting + host file changed on CAS (was already changed)

Does anyone have a working GRT restore using a two server Exchange setup ?

Thanks.

Update.

I still can't restore individual mailbox items. Full Mailbox Store restore works OK when I select "dismount store before restore". Debug log show the following entries when I try to restore some random emails from one mailbox.

The MAPI error 80040115 is a MAPI_E_NETWORK_ERROR. I created a new user with Domain Admin and Exchange admin rights. Ran another backup of the mail store. Tried to restore individual items and a mailbox both failed.

I am running Server 2008 64-bit and Exchange 2007 SP1.

I did both of these steps before I ran the successful restore of individual emails so I am not sure if both are neccessary.  I think step #2 did the trick.

I had previously installed the Backup Exec agent for Exchange as domain admin.  I uninstalled it and resinstalled it as the backup exec. admin. account.

Then I installed Outlook 2007 on the Exhchange server.

GRT works perfectly.

Let me know if it works for you.

Worked for me. This is how I restored it.
Check the logon account that is used for backup(backup Exec - beservice@abc.com). Under Active Directory > Account properties Exchange Advanced uncheck 'Hide from Exchange Address List'
After restore I set it back to Hide.
