BackupExec 7170 and DLt-S4 Tape Drive Problem

I just upgraded from 6235 to 7170.  My Quantum DLT-S4 drive no longer works.  When I try to inventory a tape the job fails with a 'drive off-line, disabled, or paused' error.  At that point the drive status is 'In Use'.  If I try to eject the tape I get an Alert telling me to Remove the Tape, and then an error that the drive is not available.  Again, the drive status goes to 'In Use'.

I have tried reinstalling drivers, removing the drive, etc.  But the drive cannot be used.  It worked fine in 6235.  As a test I connected my old SDLT 600, and this works perfectly.

Is the drive a standalone drive?  If so give these steps a shot.

From the Devices tab in Backup Exec.
1. Right click the tape drive, uncheck enabled.
2. Righ click ont he tape drive, select delete.  You may get prompted to retarget some jobs, just restart them to "All Devices" for the time being.
3. Go to Tools - Backup Exec Services
4. Select Restart All Services.
5. Once it has completed restarting all the services, check the device again to see if it is still offline and that it is listed in Backup Exec.

Also check to make sure that the drive is listed in Device Manager, it should be listed under Tape Drives.

Thanks.
