Level 2

Hi,

as spoken on QNAP forum (http://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=34889), is there any new of plugin for NAS like QNAP, Cisco or other ?

We need an application to backup computers (Windows Xp..) to the NAS without using any Windows Server.

And then replicate the NAS throw Internet using Rsync.

IS ther any new about it ?

Thanks,

Vincent

For Backup Exec to write multiple computer backups directly to NAS you would have to install a media server on every computer and use CASO to setup a shared B2D folder with all media servers using the share.

SSR Symanetc System Recovery - formerly known as BESR) might be a better option and should be more cost effective.

Both products will just write over CIFS shares (or iSCSI) to the NAS so no specific plugin/agent

That thread you posted possibly relates to the NDMP option (assuming QNAP devices support NDMP) as such you should monitor the Backup Exec Hardware Compatibility lists for the latest version of Backup Exec to see if such a device is supported.( EMC and NetApp NAS devices are already supported)

Note the ndmp option is not a plugin/agent to assist backups to the device it is an option to assist with backing up data held on the device to tape. The thread for qnap posted by the OP also appears to relate to backing up data on the device to tape and not specifically backing up data to the device so you might be expecting something that is not being considered at all if you have misunderstood this.

You can configure a backup to disk folder on a NAS . Have look on the compatibility chart. The backup should ideally work just make sure BE service account have domain admin rights and proper rights and permission on the NAS device as well .

I know that BE on Win2K3 can store on a NAS.

My problem is to use NAS with plugin only which :

- connect to computers on the LAN throw communication agent.

- create scheduling tasks

Maybe you're right, I've misunderstood the QNAP topic :/.

Thanks for your quick answer.
