BackupExec "Job Engine" and "Server" services keep crashing

Eric_Stevens_2

About once a week, the BE Job Engine and BE Server services crash. All the Windows event log says is "The Backup Exec Job Engine service terminated unexpectedly" and "The Backup Exec Server service terminated unexpectedly". These backups are incremental backups going to local disk during the time of the crash. I'm running BE v10d, on Win2k3. I've tried capturing log info using SGmon, but that hasn't help either. Any suggestions? Once the server is restarted the jobs restart and complete. These "crashes" happen about once per week, on different days, and at different times, during different jobs.

Hello Eric,

Are you running policy based backups?

Are you backing up any databases like Exchange or SQL?

Please check if there are any active alerts waiting for a response from the user. Also ensure that the progress indicators in the backup job are disabled.

Please check the event IDs in the event viewer when the services crash.

Also repair the backup Exec database with the help of the following dokument if backup Exec is installed on the MSDE instance:

No, I'm not running policy based backups or Exchange/sql backups. There are no active alerts and the progress indicators are turned off. The database was repaired today by a Dell technician. I guess I'll wait and see if the services crash again tonight. The event id in the system log is 7031

Hi Eric,

Under what account are the services running?

Refer to this document to check if there are any mismatches.

Have you changed the logon for all the services to local system account? If not try doing that and then start the services.
