BackupExec services go down -79-57344-33899

Hi world,

I have an strange problem, I just was doing backups from and restore to some Exchange Mailboxes and suddenly the BackupExec Services fell down without any visible reason. I don't have any idea of what the problem is, but it appeared just after I restored a 200 MB mailbox. After that every time I opened the backup job windows, there was no resources available and services fell down, I tried to start them from the BE but the problem continued.

Thanks in advance

Hello,

As per the UMI mentioned by you the following technotes are applicable.
Title:
After installing Windows 2003 Service Pack 1, the server cannot be selected in Backup Selections, or the backup/restore job fails with: "The resource could not be backed up because an error occurred while connecting to the Backup Exec for Windows Servers Remote Agent."

http://support.veritas.com/docs/276250

Title:
"The resource could not be backed up because an error..." (a000846b HEX or e000846b HEX) or "Media servers cannot completely protect remote Windows-based..." (a000847d HEX or e000847d HEX) when backing up a remote computer

http://support.veritas.com/docs/240971

However if this is not the case please elaborate on your scenario.
- Also please mention your OS version and Exchange version.
- Is this a local or remote backup?
- Which services are failing?
- Does it fail on any particular mailbox?
- Please try stopping any third party applications during backup and verify the results.

Hi Amruta, let me give you some details.

- Also please mention your OS version and Exchange version.
- Is this a local or remote backup?

Answer:
the BE is installed in a Windows 2000 AS SP4 + Exchange 2000 SP 3a server. The Controller Domain is in another machine. First I configured an BE service account in AD, and I joined him to Admin, Domain Admin, Exchange Domain Groups. Also I configured Full Exchange Administrator privileges to this user.

- Which services are failing?

Answer:
I don't know what services are failing, but it just happens without any visible reason.

- Does it fail on any particular mailbox?

Answer:
No, it failed after I tried to backup the Exchange Information Store and since that the problem continues

I've head that maybe there is a problem with the 10000 port due to another application trying to use it, is that correct??

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hello,
Assuming that the restore failed, Do you have an error message in the job log.
Which services in BE are stopped. if you start the services what error do they give.

Does this happen with all other jobs that follow or just for this job.

Hi,

the restore didn't fail at all. It finished correctly but after that (and I don't know if it was the reason) the remote agent fell down so when I tried to fire a backup I couldn't see the resources available. When I tried to retry the job I get an error message with the following code: v-79-57344-33899 and after that the backup server also fell down. I rebooted the server but it couldn't make it work. Do you have any idea of what is happening??

Thanks

Hello,

- Change the startup type of Backup Exec services to Manual using Local System account.
- Reboot the server and start the services.
- Also check event log for any errors.

Hi Amruta,

I just did what you adviced me but the problem continues. There are not error messages but v-79-57344-33899.

I have BE10 revision 5484 without Service Packs. Do you think installing the 5520 revision or SP1 should fix the problem?or maybe there is some hotfix that lies with this issue?

Thanks
