Backup tape jumps out of the drive immediatel after inserting it

Hi everybody,

I have got a problem with the backup drive on a Windows 2000 server running Backup Exec 9.1.

As soon as I insert a tape into the drive it almost immediately jumps out again (in about a second of 10-15).

If I insert the cleaning tape into the drive it cleans the drive correctly. But even after the cleaning the normal tapes won't stay into the drive.

I've already resetted the Backup Exec services. and respond to all alerts under the Alerts-tab.

The backup drive's status is on-line and there are no active jobs in the job monitor. I am using a HP Ultrium 1-SCS LTO-drive for backup up. The drive is about a year old and the tapes have been replaced a couple of weeks ago.

Can someone help me with more tips that I should check out?

Regards,

Mark Serlier

Hi,

Can you please us which Alerts you are getting ?
Please check from drive properties whether the media type you are using if listed or no ?

Right klick on driver>properties>media type>Read and write check box is checked for the type of media you are using.

Have you also installed latest veritas device drivers ?

*check whether the device or drive you are using is supported and tested with BEWS version 9.1 ?
http://support.veritas.com/dsl/lists/device_ddProduct_BEWNT_media_all_prod1_NT9.htm

*If yes install Veritas device drivers
VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 - Device Driver Installer (20050115) - Includes Tape Driver Release (20041231) and Robotic Library Release (45) (Intel Only).
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/273853.htm

*If no then plese install OEM device drivers
How to use original equipment manufacturer drivers with VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) for Windows Servers 9.x http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/253974.htm

*Stop RSM service on medien Server.

Hopefully this helps.
For any further query do revert.

Thank you.

Hi Mark

Don't know if you've solved this problem yet, but we had a simular issue ourselves, and eventually discovered that we were trying to put Sony SDX2 tapes into our Sony SDX1 drive. Fairly obvious, but just thought it might be worth mentioning.
