Best practices for PST archived files

Hi - Our daily incremental jobs using BE 2010 R3 are large as they are backing up each users' PST files which is archived mail attached to their inbox in Outlook 2010. As the file is loaded each time they open Outlook, their PST is being backed up on each incremental even if they have not archived mail to the file that day. Is there a best practice I should follow to ensure attached PSTs are only backed up when mail is archived to the file?

Many thanks

When backing up a pst file using Remote Agent, it will behave as you have described. It would backup the file everytime it has been opened in Outlook.

Have you tried using Backup Exec DLO to backup the pst files. It has options to perform message level Incremental of pst files.

Hi - will that solution still work if the users' desktops are Citrix XenApp on Server 2008R2 Remote Desktops, using folder redirection for the archive PST files? Currently the servers are running backup exec remote agent for windows as they are not individual desktops.

Thanks
